Cheyenne filly impressive in debut at Saratoga

Making her racecourse debut, Cheyenne Stables' Cavetto (GB) stormed to victory in an $80,000 maiden special weight at Saratoga on August 16.

Cavetto (GB) broke cleanly, but encountered all sorts of trouble during the 5 1/2-furlong event over the turf course. Content to race second from last early, she swung three-wide coming into the lane, then ducked back inside almost immediately, and did not find her best stride until near the sixteenth pole. Once set loose on the far outside Cavetto (GB) gobbled up ground, and won under a vigorous hand ride in 1:03 4/5.

Cavetto (GB) was purchased for 100,000 guineas ($162,204) at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in 2011. The daughter of Oasis Dream (GB) out of Vanishing Point, by Caller I. D. is a half-sister to multiple Group stakes-winning sprinter Royal Rock ($271,912). Trained by the veteran Christophe Clement, she was ridden to victory by Irad Ortiz Jr.
