Mo Diddley back in stakes company

Friday, June 28, 2019

Gary Barber's and Cheyenne Stables' Mo Diddley will make his first stakes start in almost two years when the 4-year-old goes postward in the $100,000 Saginaw S. on June 30 at Belmont Park.

The son of top sire Uncle Mo's career started off with a bang when he won his debut as a 2-year-old at Churchill Downs. He got several months off to mature over the winter, then had a very productive 2018, winning or placing in half of his starts, most on the turf. After another break this past winter, he returned in a May 31 Belmont allowance, winning in a solid 1:21 4/5 for the seven furlongs.

The Saginaw, on the main track, is at 1 1/16-miles, well within Mo Diddley's range, and he is also undefeated in two starts at Belmont. The race drew just a field of six, with Mo Diddley on the outside with Jose Ortiz in the irons for trainer Mark Casse.

The Saginaw is race seven on Sunday, with a post time of 4:45 p.m. ET.
